O. Fournier Winery joins the ancient love of the vineyard with all modern facilities. O Fournier is an innovative architectural concept that is intended to convey the essence of the wines of the 21st century the New World, while promoting a strong corporate image. Highlights the environmental value of the construction, to minimize the use of pumps, it uses gravity.
Located on the main wine region of Argentina, Mendoza, and specifically in La Consulta, Bodegas O. Fournier sits on a dry plain rocked by the Cordon del Plata, an oasis that gives life to vineyards miles of artificial irrigation.
The project, run by the architectural firm Bórmida & Yanzón has four separate modules at different levels to facilitate a gravity flow system. This design offers the possibility of continuing to build in stages, while integrating wine tourism and catering to customer needs. The different volumes coexist in harmony with their environment in an innovative approach that resulted in two circuits: a circuit industry and a tourist circuit, endowed with beautiful landscapes and architectural experiences. Each of the four volumes, built in reinforced concrete, glass and stainless steel, correspond to a specific function and are perfectly adapted to the changing environment and weather conditions.
The most representative elements of the building could be described as follows:
Harvest Module – Fermentation – Storage: The structure of the fermentation tanks is reinforced concrete. The reception of the grapes is high and the terrace can be accessed by two ramps that embrace the entire structure. Four columns are cylindrical steel deck cantilever juts out into the shade the work area. There are three iron and glass bridges that connect the columns, where the laboratory and its annexes are. A skylight over the structural slab is opened to natural light into interior spaces.
Module for barrels and bottle cellar: a meter of reinforced concrete with a square structure, 50 meters on each side, make a cross of natural light in its center. High off the ground is a gateway of iron to guide visitors to the circuit path. Once entered is run through various corridors that go down to reach a tunnel with a big door opens automatically suggestively to the majestic and unexpected dig 10 meters underground. The cellar is traversed by passages and in the distance hanging boxes and barrels are observed. The dimly lit environment, the effects of lighting on the walls, the central diffuse light flavoring of digging up an amazing set hard to forget. In the center of the cellar at midday sunlight through the windows of the square is above, giving the whole a mysterious and unique appearance.
Filling Module – Storage – Office: The semi-underground unit with a glazed balcony is located on the plaza level outside.
Tourism Center Module: Cubic structure of glass, including an underground room, the private wine cellar of the winery and Urban Restaurant opened in October 2006. Accessed by a staircase from the cellar, or by the main entrance. The structure of glass cubicle on a reflecting pool, with a sober and minimalist, enable the role of the Cordillera for up to 60 guests can admire it from every angle from the inside.
